PLASTIC PACKAGING

    Benefits & Challenges

With increase cross border trade all over the world, and also the benefits of plastic have increased its usage in modern life packaging. Some of the benefits are it is light weight, resistant, relatively low cost, durable and easy to process.

A few grams of plastics contribute to:

  • Saving food by increasing shelf life
  • Lesser carbon footprint and cost incur in transportation and warehousing
  • 360-degree visibility for brand identification and Product promotion and information
  • Prevent tampering
  • Convenience in use by adapting to today’s consumer habits

Unfortunately plastic, so widely use, has become a highly visible component of consumer waste (in volume and not weight)

Various options exist to improve plastic packaging sustainability:

  • Reuse:

Continue optimization packaging throughout its product life cycle as second, third life, example as trash/ bin bag

  • Recover/ Recycle:

To create full eco loop, to recover and recycle and use back in packaging production, as much as possible and as many times as possible

  • Energy:

To turn Eventual End of life of the plastic packaging into energy source. Assist in combustion in incineration and create energy source from it

BIO-BEGRADABLE IN SINGAPORE?

Many a times, especially in recent time, we were often request by our customers to use bio degradable material instead of the fossil base materials. Our reply to them is sure of course, we can do that. But is it necessary? Every single waste in Singapore is either sort out and recover for recycling or burn to ashes. We don’t land fill our waste. So why use bio degradable materials (which is make from food source) when it is not recycle-able and it will be burned to ashes eventually?? Why paying more and burn it.
